  • Continental Crust: Definition, Composition & Features
The crust including seven continents and all other land masses is called the continental crust.

It's important to note that the term "continental crust" doesn't just refer to the continents themselves. It also includes:

    * Continental shelves: The submerged edges of continents that extend out under the ocean.

    * Continental rises: Gentle slopes that rise from the ocean floor to the continental shelves.

    * Island arcs: Chains of volcanic islands often found near the edges of continents.

While the Earth's crust is divided into oceanic and continental crust, the "continental crust" encompasses all the land masses on Earth, including the continents, islands, and the submerged portions of the continents.
