  • Epicenter: Understanding Earthquake Origins and Locations
The location on the surface of the Earth immediately above the origin of a fault is called the epicenter.

    Here's why:

    * Fault: A fracture in the Earth's crust where rocks have moved past each other.

    * Origin: The point underground where the fault rupture starts.

    * Epicenter: The point on the Earth's surface directly above the origin of the earthquake.

The epicenter is the point where the effects of an earthquake are usually felt most strongly.
