  • Atmospheric Layers: Where Do Mountain Peaks Reach?
    Mountains peak within the troposphere.

    Here's why:

    * Troposphere: This is the lowest layer of the atmosphere, extending from the Earth's surface up to about 7-15 kilometers (4-9 miles). It's where we live, breathe, and experience weather.

    * Other layers: The troposphere is followed by the stratosphere, mesosphere, thermosphere, and exosphere. These layers are much higher and contain thinner air, making them unsuitable for mountain peaks.
