  • Underground Mining: Techniques and Methods for Ore Extraction
The type of mining where passageways are dug underground to reach the ore is called underground mining.

There are several types of underground mining techniques, each with its own specific methods and applications:

    * Shaft mining: This involves digging a vertical shaft down to the ore body. Horizontal passageways (called "galleries") are then dug out to reach the ore.

    * Adit mining: Similar to shaft mining, but the entry point is accessed through a horizontal tunnel that leads into the mountainside.

    * Drift mining: This method utilizes natural or existing underground openings to access the ore.

    * Room and pillar mining: Rooms are excavated in the ore body, leaving pillars of ore to support the roof.

    * Longwall mining: A large, continuous mining machine cuts a long, narrow strip of ore, leaving behind a large open area. This method is often used for coal mining.

Underground mining is used for a variety of minerals, including coal, gold, copper, diamonds, and iron ore. It can be a very dangerous and complex process, but it is often the most efficient way to extract ore from deep underground.
