  • Moraines: Understanding Glacial Deposition vs. Erosion
A moraine is the result of deposition.

    Here's why:

    * Moraines are formed by glaciers: Glaciers are massive bodies of ice that move slowly.

    * Glaciers erode the landscape: As they move, glaciers pick up rocks, soil, and other debris through a process called plucking and abrasion.

    * Glaciers transport the debris: The debris is carried along with the glacier.

    * Glaciers deposit the debris: When a glacier melts or retreats, it leaves behind the debris it has been carrying. This deposited debris forms a moraine.

Therefore, moraines are depositional landforms created by the accumulation of material deposited by glaciers.
