  • Loess: Understanding Wind-blown Sediment Deposits
Deposits of wind-blown rock flour are called loess.

Loess is a fine-grained, yellowish-brown sediment composed primarily of silt-sized particles. It's often formed by the accumulation of wind-blown dust, typically derived from glacial grinding or desert environments. The particles are so fine that they can be easily transported by the wind over long distances.
