  • Salt: Mineral or Rock? Understanding the Difference
    Salt is a mineral.

    Here's why:

    * Minerals are naturally occurring, solid substances with a defined chemical composition and a specific crystal structure.

    * Rocks are solid aggregates of one or more minerals.

While salt can form large deposits, it's still a single, identifiable mineral (halite) with a specific chemical composition (NaCl).
