  • Earth's Hemispheres: Northern, Southern, Eastern & Western - Explained
The Earth is divided into two halves in several ways, depending on what you're considering:

    * Northern and Southern Hemispheres: This division is based on the equator, an imaginary line circling the Earth at 0 degrees latitude. Everything above the equator is the Northern Hemisphere, and everything below is the Southern Hemisphere.

    * Eastern and Western Hemispheres: This division is based on the Prime Meridian, another imaginary line that runs from the North Pole to the South Pole and passes through Greenwich, England. Everything east of the Prime Meridian is the Eastern Hemisphere, and everything west is the Western Hemisphere.

    * Land and Water Hemispheres: This division is based on the distribution of land and water. The Land Hemisphere is centered on Europe and Asia, while the Water Hemisphere is centered on the Pacific Ocean.

    * Day and Night Hemispheres: This division is based on the Earth's rotation. The half of the Earth facing the sun is experiencing daytime, while the other half is experiencing nighttime.
