  • Earth's Faults: Where Do They Form? Crust, Mantle & Core Explained
Faults can form in all three layers of the Earth:

    * Crust: This is where the majority of faults are found, as the crust is the most brittle layer.

    * Mantle: Faults can also occur within the upper mantle, where the rock is still relatively rigid.

    * Core: Although the core is very hot and fluid, it can still exhibit some rigidity, and faults can form within it.

    It's important to note that:

    * Most faults are found in the Earth's crust. This is because the crust is the outermost and most brittle layer.

    * Faults in the mantle are less common and deeper. They often occur in areas where the mantle is being stretched or compressed.

    * Faults in the core are extremely rare and difficult to study.
