The Mid-Atlantic Ridge doesn't extend from Antarctica. It extends from the Arctic Ocean down to the South Atlantic Ocean, where it joins the Southeast Indian Ridge and the Southwest Indian Ridge.

The Mid-Atlantic Ridge is a divergent plate boundary, meaning that tectonic plates are moving apart, and new ocean floor is created. This is what causes the ridge to be a major geological feature.
