    The material that melted to form the early continents was basalt, a type of volcanic rock. Here's a breakdown:

    * Early Earth: The early Earth was very hot and molten. Over time, the Earth cooled and solidified, forming a crust.

    * Volcanic Activity: Intense volcanic activity was common during this period. Volcanoes erupted, spewing out molten rock, primarily basalt, onto the Earth's surface.
