    1. Physical Weathering:

    * Oxidation: Iron in rocks reacts with oxygen in the air, forming iron oxide (rust) which can cause the rock to crumble.

    * Biological Activity: Plants and animals can contribute to chemical weathering. For example, roots can grow into cracks and break rocks apart, and organic acids produced by plants can dissolve minerals.

    3. Biological Weathering:

    * Lichens: These organisms can grow on rocks and produce acids that weaken them, making them easier to break down.

    * Burrowing Animals: Animals like moles and earthworms can dig tunnels and mix the broken-down rock with organic matter.

    4. Time: Weathering is a slow process that can take thousands or even millions of years.

    5. Soil Formation:

    * Over time, the broken-down rock fragments mix with organic matter (dead plants and animals), creating soil.

    * Different types of soil are formed depending on the parent rock, climate, and other factors.

    In short, soil is the result of rocks being broken down by physical, chemical, and biological processes over a long period of time.
