  • Fjord Estuaries: Understanding Glacial-Carved Coastal Features
Estuaries formed by glacial action are called fjord estuaries.

    Here's why:

    * Fjords are long, narrow inlets with steep sides that were carved out by glaciers.

    * When glaciers retreat, the valleys they carved often fill with seawater, creating a unique type of estuary.

So, while all estuaries are influenced by the interaction of freshwater and saltwater, fjord estuaries have a distinctive origin linked to glacial activity.
