  • Granite to Rhyolite: Understanding Igneous Rock Transformation
Granite itself is an igneous rock. It's a plutonic igneous rock, meaning it cooled and solidified slowly underground.

However, when granite is exposed to the surface, it can be weathered and eroded. The fragments of granite can then be melted and re-crystallized, forming a new igneous rock called rhyolite. Rhyolite is a volcanic igneous rock that cools and solidifies quickly on the Earth's surface.

So, while granite doesn't directly "transform" into another rock, its components can be recycled and form a new igneous rock like rhyolite.
