  • Understanding Groundwater: Aquifers and Rock Layers
The resource trapped between layers of rock in an aquifer is groundwater.

    Here's why:

    * Aquifer: An aquifer is an underground layer of rock or sediment that holds groundwater.

    * Groundwater: This is water that fills the spaces between rock particles and soil.

    * Layers of rock: These layers act as a "container" for the groundwater. The top layer is usually an impermeable rock (like clay) that prevents the water from escaping upwards. The bottom layer is also usually impermeable, preventing the water from flowing downwards.

So, groundwater is essentially trapped between these impermeable layers of rock, forming a valuable resource for drinking water, irrigation, and other uses.
