    Coral belongs to the following taxonomic classifications:

    * Kingdom: Animalia (Animals)

    * Phylum: Cnidaria (Cnidarians)

    * Class: Anthozoa (Sea anemones and corals)

    It's important to note that coral is actually a colonial organism, meaning it's made up of many tiny individual animals called polyps, which are connected by tissue. These polyps are what build the hard, calcium carbonate structures we recognize as coral reefs.
