  • Tectonic Plates: Understanding Earth's Continental and Oceanic Structures
    A huge piece of crust on the Earth is called a tectonic plate.

    Tectonic plates are massive, irregularly shaped slabs of solid rock that make up the Earth's outermost layer, called the lithosphere. They "float" on the partially molten asthenosphere and are constantly moving, very slowly, in a process called plate tectonics.
