  • Oceanic Crust Thickness: Where is it Thinnest?
The crust is thinnest beneath oceanic ridges.

    Here's why:

    * Oceanic ridges are underwater mountain ranges where new oceanic crust is created through volcanic activity.

    * This process, called seafloor spreading, results in the thinnest crust directly at the ridge crest.

    * As you move further away from the ridge, the crust gets thicker as it cools and solidifies.
