  • Peru-Chile Trench: Understanding Convergent Plate Boundaries
The Peru-Chile Trench is formed at a convergent plate boundary.

    Here's why:

    * Convergent boundaries occur when two tectonic plates collide.

    * In the case of the Peru-Chile Trench, the Nazca Plate (oceanic) is subducting (diving) beneath the South American Plate (continental).

    * This subduction process creates a deep trench, volcanic activity (the Andes Mountains), and frequent earthquakes.
