  • Mantle Composition: Minerals and Molten Rock Explained
You won't find rocks in the mantle in the same way you'd find them on the surface. The mantle is incredibly hot and under immense pressure, so rocks are actually in a molten state. We call this molten rock magma.

However, we can talk about the minerals and rock types that make up the mantle:

    * Peridotite: This is the most common rock type in the mantle. It's made up of minerals like olivine and pyroxene.

    * Eclogite: This is a denser rock found deeper in the mantle. It's formed from the transformation of basalt under high pressure.

    * Other minerals: The mantle also contains other minerals like garnet, spinel, and pyrope.

So, while you won't find "rocks" in the traditional sense, the mantle is composed of these materials.
