  • Earth's Crust: Composition, Characteristics & Location
The layer of Earth made up largely of the rocks basalt and granite is the crust.

    Here's why:

    * Basalt is a dark-colored, fine-grained volcanic rock found in oceanic crust.

    * Granite is a light-colored, coarse-grained igneous rock found in continental crust.

The crust is the outermost layer of the Earth, and it's relatively thin compared to the other layers.
