  • Moraine: Definition, Types, and Formation Explained
A small mound formed by the deposit of rocks from a glacier is called a moraine.

More specifically, this type of moraine is likely a lateral moraine. Lateral moraines form along the sides of a glacier, where rock debris accumulates as the glacier moves.

Here are some other types of moraines:

    * Terminal moraine: A ridge of debris marking the furthest advance of a glacier.

    * Recessional moraine: A ridge of debris marking a temporary halt in the retreat of a glacier.

    * Ground moraine: A sheet of till deposited beneath a glacier.

    * Medial moraine: A ridge of debris formed when two glaciers merge.
