* Igneous rocks (formed from cooled magma or lava) can be weathered and eroded into sediments. These sediments then get transported, deposited, and compacted to form sedimentary rocks.
* Metamorphic rocks (formed from existing rocks under heat and pressure) can also undergo weathering and erosion. The resulting sediments will form sedimentary rocks.
* Sedimentary rocks themselves can be buried under pressure and heat, turning them back into metamorphic rocks. However, if they are uplifted and exposed to weathering and erosion, they will again break down into sediments that can form new sedimentary rocks.
The rock cycle is a continuous process of transformation, and while rocks can cycle through igneous, metamorphic, and sedimentary stages, they always have the potential to eventually become sedimentary rocks.
