  • Oceanic vs. Continental Crust: Composition & Characteristics
    The tectonic plates are made from two types of crust:

    1. Oceanic Crust: This is thinner and denser than continental crust, composed primarily of basalt and gabbro. It's found beneath the oceans.

    2. Continental Crust: This is thicker and less dense than oceanic crust, composed mainly of granite and other felsic rocks. It makes up the continents.
