  • Ruby: Mineral or Rock? Understanding Its Composition
    Ruby is a mineral.

    Here's why:

    * Mineral: A naturally occurring solid with a defined chemical composition and a specific crystal structure. Ruby is a variety of the mineral corundum (aluminum oxide, Al₂O₃) that gets its red color from trace amounts of chromium.

    * Rock: A naturally occurring solid made up of one or more minerals. While ruby can be found embedded in rocks, it itself is not a rock.
