  • Understanding Erosion: Types and Processes - A Comprehensive Guide
Two major types of erosion are:

    1. Water Erosion: This is the most common type of erosion and is caused by the movement of water. It can occur in various forms:

    * Surface Runoff: Water flowing over the land, carrying away soil and sediment.

    * Stream Erosion: The carving and shaping of the Earth's surface by flowing rivers and streams.

    * Coastal Erosion: The wearing away of shorelines by waves and currents.

    2. Wind Erosion: This occurs when wind picks up and carries away loose soil and sediment. It is particularly prevalent in arid and semi-arid regions with little vegetation cover.

    * Deflation: The removal of loose material by wind, creating depressions and blowouts.

    * Abrasion: Wind-carried particles (sand, silt, etc.) striking and wearing down surfaces.
