  • Volcanoes Near Anchorage, Alaska: A Guide to Potential Hazards
There are no active volcanoes directly near Anchorage, Alaska. The closest active volcanoes are located on the Alaska Peninsula and in the Aleutian Islands, hundreds of miles southwest of Anchorage.

However, there are a few dormant volcanoes located in the Chugach Mountains, which are directly north of Anchorage. These include:

    * Mount Spurr: This stratovolcano, located about 80 miles west of Anchorage, last erupted in 1992. It is considered a potential threat, and there have been ongoing studies of its activity.

    * Mount Redoubt: Located about 100 miles southwest of Anchorage, this volcano is considered one of the most active in Alaska and has erupted several times in recent history.

    * Mount Iliamna: Located about 140 miles southwest of Anchorage, this volcano is also considered potentially active.

While these volcanoes are not immediately near Anchorage, they are still within a reasonable distance and their eruptions could have significant impacts on the city.
