2. Mesozoic Era: This era spans from about 252 million years ago to 66 million years ago and is known for the rise of the dinosaurs, the appearance of the first birds and mammals, and the breakup of the supercontinent Pangaea. It is divided into three periods: Triassic, Jurassic, and Cretaceous.
These two eras are followed by the Cenozoic Era which began 66 million years ago and continues to the present.
