    Mesoamerica is surrounded by several bodies of water:

    To the East:

    * Caribbean Sea: This large sea forms the eastern border of Mesoamerica.

    * Gulf of Mexico: The Gulf of Mexico lies to the east of Mesoamerica, bordering the Yucatan Peninsula.

    To the West:

    * Pacific Ocean: The Pacific Ocean forms the western boundary of Mesoamerica.

    Within Mesoamerica:

    * Lake Nicaragua: This is the largest lake in Central America, located in Nicaragua.

    * Lake Atitlán: This beautiful lake is located in Guatemala, surrounded by volcanoes.

    * Lake Izabal: This large lake is located in Guatemala, connected to the Caribbean Sea by a short river.

    * Lake Chapala: This is the largest lake in Mexico, located in the state of Jalisco.

    * Lake Texcoco: This lake, now mostly drained, was historically important to the Aztec civilization.

    Mesoamerica also has a number of rivers, including the Usumacinta River, the Grijalva River, the Motagua River, and the San Juan River.
