  • Gravity's Role in Erosion: Landslides, Rockfalls, and Creep
Landslides, rockfalls, and creep are all examples of erosion by gravity. They are not examples of deposition. Here's why:

    * Erosion: The process of wearing away and transporting rock and soil.

    * Deposition: The process of dropping or settling of eroded material.

    How Gravity Plays a Role:

    * Landslides: Gravity causes masses of rock, soil, and debris to move downslope.

    * Rockfalls: Gravity pulls loose rocks down steep cliffs and slopes.

    * Creep: Gravity slowly pulls soil and rock downslope, often resulting in a gradual tilting of objects on the surface.

Key Point: While these processes move material, they are primarily erosional forces. The material they move is often deposited elsewhere, but the movement itself is considered erosion.
