  • North America's Continental Divide: Location & Geography
The Continental Divide of North America is a long, mountainous ridge that separates the watersheds that drain to the Pacific Ocean from those that drain to the Atlantic Ocean and the Gulf of Mexico.

It runs through the following areas:

    * United States: The Rocky Mountains, from the southern tip of the San Juan Mountains in Colorado, northward through Montana, Wyoming, and Idaho. It then continues through the Bitterroot Range and the Lewis Range in Montana and Glacier National Park.

    * Canada: It continues through British Columbia's Coast Mountains and the Rocky Mountains.

Note: The Continental Divide is not a single, continuous line, but rather a complex system of ridges and valleys that shift depending on the topography.

It's important to note that the term "Continental Divide" is often used interchangeably with "Great Divide" in North America.
