    1. Hand Lens:

    * Function: A hand lens is a simple magnifying glass used to closely examine rock and mineral samples.

    * How it works: The lens bends light rays, causing them to converge and magnify the object being viewed. This allows geologists to see finer details like crystal structure, grain size, and mineral composition.

    2. Compass:

    * Function: A compass is used to determine direction and bearing, which is essential for mapping geological features.

    * How it works: A compass uses a magnetic needle that aligns with the Earth's magnetic field. This needle points to magnetic north, allowing geologists to determine the orientation of geological structures, like faults and folds.

    3. GPS (Global Positioning System):

    * Function: A GPS device provides precise location data, which is crucial for mapping and studying the distribution of geological features.

    * How it works: GPS receivers communicate with satellites orbiting Earth. By receiving signals from multiple satellites, the receiver can calculate its precise location (latitude, longitude, and elevation).

    4. Seismometer:

    * Function: A seismometer is used to detect and measure ground movements caused by earthquakes or other seismic events.

    * How it works: A seismometer consists of a mass suspended on a spring. When the ground shakes, the mass remains stationary due to inertia. The relative motion between the mass and the ground is recorded, providing information about the strength, duration, and direction of the earthquake.
