  • Himalayan Formation: Understanding the Collision of Plates
The Himalayas are formed by the collision of two continental plates: the Indian Plate and the Eurasian Plate.

    Here's a breakdown:

    * Indian Plate: This plate was once a part of the supercontinent Gondwana. It started moving northward millions of years ago, eventually colliding with the Eurasian Plate.

    * Eurasian Plate: This plate encompasses most of Europe and Asia.

When these two massive plates collided, the immense pressure caused the land to buckle and fold, forming the towering Himalayan mountain range. This process is called continental-continental convergence.
