    Crater Lake formed approximately 7,700 years ago.

    This occurred when the volcano known as Mount Mazama erupted violently, collapsing inward on itself to form a massive caldera. Over time, the caldera filled with rainwater and snowmelt, eventually forming the lake we see today.
