  • Feldspars in Granite: Orthoclase & Plagioclase Explained
The two most common feldspars found in granite are:

    1. Orthoclase: This is a potassium feldspar with a chemical formula of KAlSi3O8. It is typically pink, white, or cream-colored.

    2. Plagioclase: This is a sodium-calcium feldspar with a chemical formula of (Na,Ca)AlSi3O8. It can range in color from white to gray to black, depending on the amount of calcium present.

These two feldspars are usually found together in granite, often forming intergrown crystals called perthite.
