  • Surface Rocks: Understanding Sedimentary & Extrusive Igneous Rock Formation
The two types of rock that can form on the surface are:

    * Sedimentary rocks: These rocks are formed from the accumulation and cementation of sediments, such as sand, mud, and organic matter. They form in layers and can be found in many different environments, including rivers, lakes, oceans, and deserts.

    * Extrusive igneous rocks: These rocks are formed when magma erupts onto the surface of the Earth, cools, and solidifies. The rapid cooling leads to the formation of fine-grained textures, often with visible crystals. Examples include basalt and rhyolite.
