  • Moraines: Understanding Glacier Deposits and Landforms
The small hill-like mound formed from the deposits as a glacier recedes is called a moraine.

There are different types of moraines, depending on their location relative to the glacier:

    * Terminal moraine: A ridge of debris marking the farthest advance of a glacier.

    * Lateral moraine: A ridge of debris deposited along the sides of a glacier.

    * Medial moraine: A ridge of debris formed when two lateral moraines merge.

    * Recessional moraine: A ridge of debris marking a temporary halt in the retreat of a glacier.

So, while the general term is moraine, the specific type depends on the location and formation of the mound.
