  • What Lies Beneath: Exploring the Layers Below Bedrock
The answer to what's below bedrock depends on where you are on Earth!

    Here are a few possibilities:

    * More rock: Bedrock is the solid rock that lies beneath the soil and other unconsolidated materials. It can be many different types of rock, like granite, limestone, or sandstone. In some places, there might be layers of different bedrock types stacked on top of each other.

    * Magma: In areas with active volcanoes, bedrock can be directly above molten rock called magma.

    * The Earth's mantle: Deep within the Earth, below the crust where bedrock is found, lies the mantle. The mantle is mostly solid rock, but it's hot enough to flow very slowly. This is what allows the Earth's tectonic plates to move.

It's important to note that we can't directly observe what's below bedrock everywhere on Earth. We rely on various scientific methods, like seismic waves and drilling, to learn about the Earth's structure.
