  • Earth's Layers: A Comprehensive Overview of Crust, Mantle & Core
The Earth is composed of several layers. These layers can be categorized in different ways, but here are two common views:

    1. Compositional Layers:

    * Crust: The outermost, thin, rocky layer. It's divided into oceanic crust (thinner, denser, and made mostly of basalt) and continental crust (thicker, less dense, and made mostly of granite).

    * Mantle: The thickest layer, made of mostly solid rock (with some molten regions). It's divided into the upper mantle (which includes the asthenosphere, a partially molten layer) and the lower mantle.

    * Core: The Earth's innermost layer, composed primarily of iron and nickel. It's further divided into the outer core (liquid) and the inner core (solid, due to immense pressure).

    2. Physical Layers:

    * Lithosphere: The rigid, outermost layer of the Earth, including the crust and the upper portion of the mantle. It's broken into tectonic plates.

    * Asthenosphere: A semi-molten, partially solid layer in the upper mantle. It's where tectonic plates move.

    * Mesosphere: The lower part of the mantle, which is solid but can flow very slowly over time.

    * Outer Core: Liquid iron and nickel, generating the Earth's magnetic field.

    * Inner Core: Solid iron and nickel, incredibly dense and hot.

In addition to these layers, the Earth also has an atmosphere, a hydrosphere (water), and a biosphere (living organisms).
