Here's how it works:
* Barometric altimeters use the relationship between air pressure and altitude. As you go higher, air pressure decreases. These altimeters measure the air pressure and convert it into an altitude reading.
* Radar altimeters emit radio waves that bounce off the ground and return to the device. The time it takes for the waves to travel to the ground and back is used to calculate the altitude.
Note: While altimeters are commonly used for measuring mountain heights, more accurate methods like triangulation and GPS are used for official measurements.
