  • Low Albedo Surfaces: Examples and Explanations
A surface with a low albedo reflects very little sunlight. Here are a few examples:

    * Dark asphalt: Black asphalt absorbs almost all sunlight, making it very hot on sunny days.

    * Forests: Dark green leaves absorb most sunlight, contributing to the Earth's overall albedo.

    * Ocean water: While water reflects some light, especially when calm, it mostly absorbs the energy from sunlight.

    * Dark soil: Like asphalt, dark soil absorbs a significant amount of sunlight.

In contrast, surfaces with high albedo (like fresh snow or white sand) reflect a lot of sunlight back into the atmosphere.
