  • Lunar Composition: Is the Moon Rocky or Gaseous?
    Our moon is rocky.

It's made up of various types of rock, including:

    * Lunar maria: Dark, smooth plains made of solidified volcanic basalt.

    * Highlands: Lighter, mountainous regions made of anorthosite, a type of feldspar-rich rock.

    * Regolith: A layer of loose, fragmented rock and dust covering the lunar surface.

While the moon has a very thin atmosphere, it's not thick enough to be considered gaseous. It's primarily a solid, rocky body.
