  • Phaneritic Igneous Rocks: Formation & Examples - Geology Science
Slow cooling magma results in an phaneritic igneous rock texture.

    Here's why:

    * Phaneritic means the rock has large, visible crystals. This is because the slow cooling process allows for ample time for mineral crystals to grow and reach a significant size.

    Examples of phaneritic igneous rocks:

    * Granite: A light-colored, coarse-grained rock rich in quartz and feldspar.

    * Diorite: A medium-grained rock with a composition between granite and gabbro.

    * Gabbro: A dark-colored, coarse-grained rock rich in pyroxene and plagioclase feldspar.

In contrast, fast cooling magma results in aphanitic textures, where crystals are too small to be seen with the naked eye.
