    Sedimentary rocks are formed in a variety of places, but they all require the presence of sediment. Here's a breakdown:

    1. At the Surface of the Earth:

    * Riverbeds and Lakes: Rivers carry eroded particles from mountains and uplands, depositing them in calmer waters where they settle.

    * Coastal Areas: Beaches are formed by waves eroding and depositing sand and other sediments.

    The Process of Sedimentary Rock Formation:

    3. Deposition: Sediments settle out of the transporting medium and accumulate in layers.

    5. Cementation: Minerals dissolved in groundwater precipitate between sediment grains, binding them together to form solid rock.
