  • Which Rock Won't Float? Understanding Density & Buoyancy
This is a bit of a trick question! Most rocks will sink in water.

    Here's why:

    * Density: Rocks are generally denser than water. This means they have more mass packed into the same volume compared to water. Since denser objects sink, most rocks go to the bottom.

However, there are a few exceptions:

    * Porous rocks: Some rocks, like pumice, have many air pockets. These air pockets can make the rock less dense than water, allowing it to float.

    * Rocks with trapped air: Sometimes air gets trapped inside a rock, which can also make it float.

So, the answer is technically most rocks, but there are exceptions!
