  • Camelback Mountain: Geology & Formation - Is It a Volcano?
Camelback Mountain in Phoenix is not an old volcano.

It's actually a geological uplift formed by a process called faulting, where tectonic plates shift and cause the earth's crust to rise.

While there are extinct volcanoes in Arizona, Camelback Mountain is a result of a different geological process.
