  • Earth's Rock Layers: Crust and Mantle Explained
The two layers of the Earth made up of rocks are:

    * Crust: This is the outermost layer, and it's what we walk on. It's relatively thin compared to other layers, and it's made of solid rock. There are two types of crust: oceanic crust (found beneath the oceans) and continental crust (found beneath the continents).

    * Mantle: This is the thickest layer of the Earth, located below the crust. It's made of mostly solid rock, but it also contains some molten rock (magma). The mantle is very hot, and the pressure is incredibly high. This causes the rock to behave like a very viscous fluid over long periods.

While the core of the Earth is also made of rock, it's mostly liquid iron and nickel, not solid rock like the crust and mantle.
