Krakatoa is not located on a single island, but rather on a
group of islands called the
Krakatoa Islands, located in the
Sunda Strait between the islands of
Java and
Sumatra in Indonesia.
The eruption that famously destroyed the original Krakatoa island in 1883 created the current islands: Rakata, Sertung, and Anak Krakatau, meaning "child of Krakatoa".
