  • Vulcan and Mount Etna: The Roman God of Volcanoes
The Roman god believed to work in the crater of Mount Etna is Vulcan.

Vulcan, the Roman equivalent of the Greek god Hephaestus, was the god of fire, metalworking, and volcanoes. His forge was often depicted as being located beneath Mount Etna, where he would create weapons and other objects for the gods.

The Greeks believed that the eruptions of Etna were caused by Hephaestus's fiery work in his forge. The Romans adopted this belief and associated Vulcan with the volcano.
