  • Elevation Comparison: Southeast vs. Northeast US - Which is Higher?
The Southeast generally has lower elevations than the Northeast.

    Here's why:

    * Southeast: This region is primarily composed of coastal plains and low-lying hills. The Appalachian Mountains run through the region, but their highest peaks are located further north in the Northeast.

    * Northeast: This region includes the northern portion of the Appalachian Mountains, which contain the highest peaks in the Eastern United States.

So, while both regions have mountains, the Northeast has significantly higher peaks.
